Orthopedics & Joint Camp

The orthopedic surgeons at The Medical Center of Plano are among the most trusted when it comes to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving the musculoskeletal system.

Especially prominent are the surgeons who specialize in hip and knee repair and replacement, as well as orthopedic oncology. Any of them would be happy to discuss with you whether surgery offers the best chance for permanent relief of your hip, knee or shoulder pain , as well as improved mobility.

Orthopedic surgeons will tell you about the safest, most effective, and most widely adopted approaches, methods, and materials, and about the possible risks and complications associated with each.

Consideration may also be given to treating your problem with an anti-inflammatory medication, nutritional supplements, or physical therapy.

Procedures offered includes:

  • Primary hip and knee joint replacement
  • Hip and knee revisions
  • Orthopedic oncology
  • Arthroscopies

Joint Camp

The Medical Center of Plano's twice-monthly "Joint Camp" is for patients who are considering or preparing for hip- or knee-replacement surgery.

Understanding what to expect after joint-replacement surgery leads to a more realistic outlook, and often a better outcome. Anxiety is reduced by knowing what's ahead, getting questions answered, meeting the staff, and touring the unit.

At Joint Camp, patients are given easy-to-understand material on the joint-replacement process they can study at home. In it they’ll find information on pre- and post-operative strengthening exercises, as well as on what it will be like in the hospital, and on post-operative care and home safety.

Back on Your Feet

Physical and occupational therapy are essential components of the recovery process. The goal of therapy is to enable patients to regain mobility, strength, and independence.

Sharing of the post-surgical experience in a group setting gives patients the encouragement and emotional support they need to rebuild their confidence.

Joint Camp encourages the active involvement of loved ones in every step of the process. Their participation in group therapy helps them learn how to act as “recovery coaches,” and enable patients to stay safe when they return home.
