Junior Volunteer FAQs
How old do I have to be to apply?
High school applicants must be at least 16 years of age. All applicants currently enrolled in college courses may apply. No exceptions to the age requirement can or will be made.
When is the deadline for applications?
We will begin accepting applications on March 18th and the deadline for submission is April 5th. If your application is received prior to March 18th or postmarked later than April 5th, it will not be considered.
I am a college student. In order to be considered, do I have to have an interest in healthcare or be in a Nursing / Pre-Med Program?
No. All applications will be carefully reviewed, and it is not required to be in any type of nursing or pre-med program. However; if you are interested in a healthcare career, please indicate that on your application.
I am going on vacation this year and can’t commit to the complete session. Can I still apply?
No. We require that all applicants commit to the COMPLETE session which is 4 consecutive weeks.
The website states that there are two sessions. When are they and what are the time commitments required for each one?
- Session One: June 10th – July 3rd (Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm)
- Session Two: July 8th – August 1st (Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Can I do both sessions?
No. Due to the amount of applications we receive, all volunteers that are accepted will be assigned ONE session only.
Will I get to shadow doctors?
No. We do not offer a shadowing program through the volunteer office. If you wish to shadow a doctor, please contact our Education Department at 972.519.1190. Please note that shadowing opportunities are very limited and rare within our hospital.
Will I get to choose my assignment / session?
No. The Assistant Manager will assign all volunteer positions and session dates after carefully reviewing applications. We will do our best to find something that fits your interests and to find something that is both beneficial for you as well as the hospital.
How many students will TMCP accept this summer?
The maximum amount of applications we will consider is 150. The maximum amount of participants chosen for the program is 20 total (10 per session.) Please note that positions are limited.
